Sebastian Stan, Avenger and alum of 'Hot Tub Time Machine,' recognizes there could be 2 of him in the MCU
Sebastian Stan's role as Blaine, the bully in Hot Tub Time Machine, is one of those classic "Ah, that was him!" parts that dawns on fans any time the 2010 time-travel comedy randomly pops up on cable networks.
The 36-year-old actor didn't gain prominence until he was cast as Bucky Barnes (aka The Winter Soldier) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger.
So when Hot Tub Time Machine was mentioned as one of a handful of time-travel movies referenced by Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) and friends in Avengers: Endgame, it provided something of a revelation:
In Endgame, Rhodey mentioned of “hot tub time machine"
Sebastian is in that movie.
Therefore Sebastian Stan exists in the Marvel universe.
Therefore there is a guy that looks just like the Winter Soldier but he’s an actor named Sebastian Stan.— 𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐋. (@3490stark) April 28, 2019
If Hot Tub Time Machine exists in the MCU, then so does actor Sebastian Stan.
"That's the plan for me next, in these movies, is to be myself," Stan cracked when we brought this up to him at San Diego Comic-Con, where he was promoting the upcoming home entertainment release of Endgame alongside his favorite press rounds partner in crime, Anthony Mackie (watch above).
"But you can't talk to anybody, you can't run into yourself, or you'll change the course of time," Mackie warned.
Yet — just to spitball here — if there were two versions of Stan in the MCU, they'd be different people, which Stan acknowledged.
So to sum up it all up, there are two Sebastian Stans in the MCU... and Gwyneth Paltrow probably doesn’t know either of them.
Avengers: Endgame will be available on digital July 30 and Blu-ray Aug. 13.
