See Dorky Josh Groban and ‘Dad’ Tony Danza in First Look at Netflix’s ‘The Good Cop’ (Video)

Sunday was all about the Tonys — and we’re not talking about Broadway’s biggest night.

Netflix dropped the first look at Josh Groban and Tony Danza’s upcoming one-hour dramedy “The Good Cop” tonight, just as the former was hosting the 72nd annual Tony Awards with fellow singer Sara Bareilles.

In the teaser, which reveals the 10-episode first season will be released on September 21, Groban and Danza are a father and son who couldn’t be more different, except for the fact they are both cops named Tony.

Groban (Tony Jr.) does his very best to look like a complete dork with matted down hair and glasses, while sitting next to Danza (Tony Sr.), the portrait of cool, on a couch. It’s very clear there are more than a few issues here that need to be worked out.

Here’s the official logline for the show: In “The Good Cop,” Tony Danza plays Tony Sr., a lovable yet not exactly honorable, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony Jr., Josh Groban, a brilliant, straight-laced NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules while solving Brooklyn’s toughest cases. This “odd couple” become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice.

The cast also includes Monica Barbaro, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Bill Kottkamp.

Andy Breckman, the creator of “Monk,” will serve as showrunner and executive produce, along with Randy Zisk (“Bones,” “Monk”) and Howard Klein (“The Office,” “The Mindy Project”). Danza is a producer on the project.

“The Good Cop” is inspired by a format from Israeli production company YES, which also grabs an executive producer credit.

“The Good Cop” will launch September 21 on Netflix.
