See a first look at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Hallmark movie — and get details on its release date
As the Kansas City Chiefs kick off their season Sept. 5, Hallmark is sharing a first look at its upcoming football-themed film, "Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story."
"Holiday Touchdown," starring Tyler Hynes and Hunter King with appearances from Donna Kelce and TODAY's very own Jenna Bush Hager, will premiere Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. ET, Hallmark announced Thursday.
Hallmark also released a teaser trailer for the film, featuring clips of King and Hynes' characters, Alana and Derrick, in Arrowhead Stadium as well as a sneak peek at Kelce in her role as a barbecue restaurant manager.
"There's a lot of very specific insider baseball — or insider football, I should say — in this movie that I think Chiefs fans will really appreciate," Hynes tells TODAY.com about the film on Sept. 5 at Arrowhead Stadium.
"Everybody here, they are such die-hard Chiefs fans, I've never seen anything like it, and then we have die-hard Hallmark fans, so the two of those coming together, making this amazing, feel-good Christmas love story, it's going to be amazing," King adds.
"Holiday Touchdown" was filmed in Kansas City and Arrowhead Stadium in July. The movie promises cameo appearances from Chiefs coach Andy Reid and players Mecole Hardman, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and George Karlaftis.
While Kansas City was at the center of the year's most famous celebrity relationships in Taylor Swift and tight end Travis Kelce, the film does not mimic their love story. In fact, Hallmark’s senior vice president for programming, Samantha DiPippo, told TODAY.com on set that "of course" "Holiday Touchdown" could exist without their relationship.
"We tell epic love stories all the time. I can't think of a better partnership between Hallmark and the Kansas City Chiefs to tell this love story," she said. "People are going to watch this movie. You may not be a Kansas City fan. It's still for you. This is 100% a pure Hallmark movie at heart."
"Holiday Touchdown" follows Alana (King) and her family of Chiefs super fans as they try to win an annual fan of the year contest.
Derrick (Hynes), the Chiefs' director of fan engagement, has to help determine the winner. Sparks fly while a lucky winter hat goes missing in the cozy, sports-themed romance.
