See Robert Redford's last heist before retiring from Hollywood in 'The Old Man & the Gun' trailer (exclusive)
Robert Redford is finished with acting — but not before making one last run at cinematic glory in one of this fall’s most eagerly anticipated releases, whose new trailer Yahoo is exclusively debuting above.
The 82-year-old Hollywood star recently announced that he’s retiring from the business that made him an international icon. Nonetheless, audiences will get a chance to see him on the big screen one more time when he headlines The Old Man & the Gun, a based-on-real-events crime drama that, per its title, concerns an elderly gentleman named Forrest Tucker (Redford) who spent his life committing crimes and, on 16 separate occasions, escaping from prison.
The film is written and directed by David Lowery, who previously collaborated with Redford on 2016’s Pete’s Dragon, and adapted from David Grann’s 2003 article in the New Yorker. And as evidenced by the new clip, the film will clearly be a jovial and elegiac sort of period-piece crime saga, with Redford teaming with aged partners Danny Glover and Tom Waits to pull off one last big score, Casey Affleck’s nicely mustached cop trying to end the thief’s crime spree, and Sissy Spacek falling in love with the fedora-wearing crook.

Clearly evoking a 1970s-style atmosphere in its grainy visuals, folksy score, and old-school onscreen typeface, The Old Man & the Gun will look to give Redford one final chance at an acting Oscar (he’s only won for directing, for 1980’s Ordinary People) when it arrives in theaters on Sept. 28.
