Sarah Rafferty is saying goodbye to a well-known face in Hollywood, and it's someone that she has a surprise connection with.

On July 13, news broke that sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer died at the age of 96 the day before. First gaining popularity in the 1980s for her honest and relatable approach to human sexuality, her publicist reported to ABC News she was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her death.

As celebrities paid tribute to Dr. Ruth, the Suits star went on Instagram to pay tribute in a unique way. Posting a clip of an Herbal Essences commercial she shot with Dr. Ruth in 1999 along with a photo of their reunion in 2015, Sarah reflected on how working with her was a moment she'd never forget.

"Trail blazer, orphan, survivor, icon, professor, refugee, change maker, uplifter," she wrote on July 15. "I remember the moment in 1998, in a studio in Queens, when I heard that wildly familiar and remarkable radio voice actually embodied by the small but mighty Dr. Ruth Westheimer. She was a magical lifter of spirits. Her joy was contagious, her wit razor sharp, her gaze deeply connected."

"Spending two days with Dr Ruth shooting a hair commercial was a career highlight, hilarious and unforgettable, she added. "I was beyond thrilled to see her again in 2015, and she was as gracious and vibrant as ever. Rest in Peace and thank you, Dr. Ruth."

When fans saw the emotional declaration Sarah made for Dr. Ruth, they rushed to the comments to support her in this loss.

"I'm glad you had that special moment together. R.I.P. ??," one person wrote. "The best moments are those spent with special people ?? I wish you sincere condolences ??????," another penned. "Love this ad! You both were funny & amazing … what a classic … RIP Dr. Ruth," a different follower added.

While Sarah shared her unexpected bond with Dr. Ruth online, this isn't the only time she's mentioned working with her in the past. When speaking to the L.A. Times in December 2023, she shared how the commercial changed her life.

"I think it was one of the fastest calls that I got for something," she told the outlet at the time. "And I got to do it with Dr. Ruth. It was the last commercial that aired before the last Seinfeld. I do know it was huge enough that I could cut down on my waitressing shifts, and I could actually shift to being coat check. That was back when commercials were life changing."
