Selena Gomez—and Fans—Can't Help but Troll Steve Martin's Low-Quality Social Media Post

Selena Gomez couldn’t help but poke a bit of fun at Steve Martin after her friend and Only Murders in the Building co-star shared a low-quality image of a poster for their show on social media.

Martin, who plays one of Gomez’s podcasting partners on the Hulu comedy-drama series, shared the image on Instagram on Wednesday, July 17, in celebration of that morning’s 2024 Emmy Awards nominations. Only Murders in the Building’s third season is now one of the top-nominated shows heading into this year’s awards show, which is scheduled to take place in September.

In addition to the show itself earning an Emmy nomination in the Best Comedy Series category, Martin and fellow co-star Martin Short were each nominated in the Best Actor in a Comedy Series category. Gomez also nabbed her first acting Emmy nomination for her starring role as Mabel Mora. The show received a total of 21 nominations.

Following the nomination ceremony Wednesday morning, Martin shared a blurry image of a show poster with his Instagram followers. “Lotsa Emmy nominations for OMITB! Now we start the attack ads,” Martin, 78, wrote to caption the image.

Gomez, 31, posted a top-liked comment on the image, writing, “I should’ve helped you post ?? miss you. Congratulations ????????.”

Hulu’s official Instagram account also teased Martin over the post in a comment that read, “quality on point! ??,” while the show’s account simply commented, “nailed it.”

Several fans joined in on the hilarity, with many cracking their own jokes about the image’s quality.

“This nomination must feel like a blur,” one fan wrote.

“Thought I lost a contact lens for a second there,” another person commented.

“If only you had as many pixels as Emmys !” another fan laughed.

Martin got the hint before long, though he didn’t delete the first low-quality image. Instead, he shared a new—and much sharper—image of a show poster featuring himself standing alongside Gomez and Short.

“A repost in a more professional way….We’re thrilled with our nominations,” Martin wrote to caption his new Instagram post.

The 76th Emmy Awards will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Calif., on Sunday, September 15.
