Selena Gomez movies and TV shows: 10 greatest performances ranked worst to best
At 32 years old, she’s an award-winning musician, a critically acclaimed actress, a successful businesswoman, and the epitome of a social media influencer. Selena Gomez has accomplished more in her three decades of living than most do a lifetime, and it doesn’t seem as though she’s going to fade into the shadows of time as many child performers do. Scroll through our gallery above (or click here for direct access) to see our listing of the best Selena Gomez movies and TV shows, ranked.
Gomez was born on July 22, 1992, in Grand Prairie, Texas, to a young mother who struggled after her divorce from Gomez’s father. After watching her mother, an amateur actress, Gomez became interested in the entertainment industry, and received her first role in 2002, on a few episodes of “Barney & Friends.” After a few more bit parts, she received a recurring role on “Hannah Montana” in 2007, beginning her journey as a Disney star.

Also in 2007, Gomez received her breakout role on Disney’s Emmy-winning “Wizards of Waverly Place,” where she honed her comedy skills, and was able to showcase her musical abilities as well, most notably its theme song, “Everything Is Not What It Seems,” and “Magic,” an updated version of the 1974 single by Pilot. She cemented her teen idol status in films like Disney’s “Princess Protection Program” (2009) and “Ramona and Beezus” (2010), and established her music career with the creation of Selena Gomez & the Scene in 2008.
In the 17 years since her meteoric rise to fame, Gomez has matured as an actress, garnering attention with more adult-oriented films like “Spring Breakers” (2012). In 2012, she dissolved her band, and launched her solo career in 2013, proving herself to be as popular a music star as actress, winning the American Music Award for Favorite Rock/Pop Female Artist in 2016 and being named “Billboard” Woman of the Year in 2017. Her top 10 singles include “Come and Get It” (2013), “The Heart Wants What It Wants” (2014), “Same Old Love” (2015), “Lose You to Love me” (2019), and “Calm Down” (with Rema, 2022).
Gomez had proven herself a savvy businesswoman as well, serving as producer for series like “Thirteen Reasons Why” (2017-20) and the acclaimed “Only Murders in the Building,” in which she also costars alongside veteran comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short. She has been a spokesperson for brands ranging from Adidas to Coca Cola to Coach to Puma. In 2020, she launched the vegan-based cosmetics line Rare Beauty, which was named Startup of the Year at the WWD Beauty Inc Awards in 2020, and was named the most influential company of 2024 by “Time” magazine — just two of the dozens of honors the company has been bestowed. It is reportedly worth $2 billion dollars, making Gomez one of the youngest female self-made billionaires in the country.
Throughout all of this, Gomez has been open about physical and mental health struggles. Diagnosed with lupus, Gomez received a kidney transplant from friend and fellow entertainer Francia Raisa in 2017. She has detailed her struggles with anxiety and depression, and created the Rare Impact Fund, which “envisions a world where all young people have access to mental health care, stigma-free community support and culturally responsive resources that are sensitive to their unique backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.” It has raised more than $15 million dollars since 2020.

Among her many achievements, Gomez holds quite a few world records, including the most-followed female and entertainer on Instagram, third only to soccer greats Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and the most-followed actor on X. She was the first person to achieve 100 million followers on Instagram.
Gomez has been in high-profile relationships with Nick Jonas, Justin Bieber, and the Weeknd. She is currently dating record producer Benny Blanco, and is co-starring in the Spanish musical crime comedy “Emilia Pérez,” which received a nine-minute standing ovation at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Jury Prize and the Best Actress Award for the female ensemble of the film.
While there have been many child stars to leave the industry and achieve success in other areas, and a few who have successfully transitioned into more mature roles, very few have achieved the level of success wearing as many hats as the still-young Selena Gomez has. With her smarts, her humor, and her compassion, it will be interesting to see what this talented artist has yet to accomplish.
