Selena Gomez Reflects On Filming 'Wizards Of Waverly Place': 'I Cringe'

Selena Gomez is opening up about her role in the popular Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place."

In the show, which premiered in October 2007 and ran for four seasons, Gomez played Alex Russo, a teenage wizard with a knack for getting into trouble.

The actress isn't ready to say goodbye to the wizarding world as it's been confirmed that Selena Gomez will reunite with former co-star David Henrie for the highly anticipated reboot, "Wizards Beyond Waverly Place."

The actress recently took a trip down memory lane by watching a scene from the series finale of the hit Disney Channel show, which aired in 2012 after four successful seasons.

Reflecting on the role that launched her career, Gomez shared her candid thoughts with Vanity Fair, reminiscing about the impact "Wizards of Waverly Place" had on her life and career.

"I really appreciated our writers. We had writers on the show that were from 'Friends,' we had Dom DeLuise's son, and he just inherently had this humor about him and it was so captivating," the 32-year-old said of her costar, David DeLuise, who played her character Alex Russo's father.

While she loved her time on the show (so much so that she's reuniting with part of the cast for a reboot) she admitted that when she "watches the first season, I cringe, and then later I actually find myself laughing at those moments because the real moments are, to me, what made 'Wizards.'"

Last month, Gomez gushed about returning to the set and revisiting her beloved character, calling it "a dream."

"I truly feel like it was the place I started and I'll always be grateful for that time," she said. "And I just hope that this new chapter can bring a whole new audience joy the same way that we did when we were younger."

The upcoming show will premiere on Disney Channel on October 29, 2024.

In that same interview with Vanity Fair, the 32-year-old star shared personal details about her future plans for motherhood, revealing that she’s unable to carry her own children and will likely pursue surrogacy or adoption to build her family.

"I haven't ever said this...but I unfortunately can't carry my own children," she told the outlet. "I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby's in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while."

"[But] I'm in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me," the actress added. "It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I'm one of those people."

Gomez later said, "I'm excited for what that journey will look like, but it'll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don't care. It'll be mine. It'll be my baby."

Gomez is currently dating Benny Blanco, who started their romance quietly in mid-2023, keeping things under wraps for months before making their relationship public. Once they did, they were all in, flaunting their love with adorable social media posts and matching custom accessories.

The two also share a passion for cooking. Gomez has already made waves in the culinary world with her hit MAX series "Selena + Chef," while Blanco has recently gained attention with his cookbook, "Open Wide."

"It’s crazy how your partner could just be sitting there the whole time, right in front of your eyes, and you don’t even notice,” Blanco told Wall Street Journal earlier this year. “And then you have that Clueless moment where you’re like, ‘Wait, I’m in love.’”

During a May 14 visit to "The Howard Stern Show," the producer revealed to Stern that he’s contemplating marriage, though he hasn't picked out a ring yet. "When I look at her... I'm always just like, I don't know a world where it could be better than this," he shared.

He went on to say, "People always told me that when you meet your best friend, you'll just know. She truly is my best friend."

Since then, people have speculated that Blanco has popped the question, though the couple has yet to confirm this.
