Selena Gomez Revealed the Way Benny Blanco Changed Her Plans for Motherhood

Selena Gomez wants to “Love On” a baby one day, but boyfriend Benny Blanco slightly altered her plans. The Only Murders in the Building star opened up about her plans for motherhood — and how they’ve shifted — in a candid new interview.

When speaking with TIME as part of their 100 Most Influential Companies issue, the Rare Beauty founder revealed that she originally had plans to adopt a baby in the near future. Gomez told the outlet, “I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it. A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it.” Part of that acceptance meant plans to expand her family. “Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone,” she said.

Lots of celebrities adopt as single parents — Madonna and Sandra Bullock, for example — so Gomez would have been in good company if she went ahead with this plan. It is sweet to see how she wasn’t going to let anything get in the way of becoming a mom one day! But getting serious with her boyfriend has her reconsidering her original plans.

“It just happens when you least expect it,” she said about their relationship. The outlet asked her feelings on having kids with Blanco in light of his comments on The Howard Stern Show earlier this month. (ICYMI, the producer and songwriter said that his “next goal” is to be a dad. “I have a ton of god kids; I’ve got a ton of nephews. I love being around kids,” he said. “It’s always a topic of conversation to me every day,” he added about having this conversation with Gomez.)

“He can’t lie to save his life. If he’s asked a question, he’ll answer it,” the “Single Soon” singer told TIME with a laugh. She adeptly dodged the question, saying, “I know what people can do to people I love. My own fans, who I adore and feel like have shaped who I am, will say the most hurtful things to me about how I live my life. But he has the strength in him that none of that noise fazes him. It’s really impressive, and I just cherish every moment with him. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that he’s not going anywhere any time soon.”

This seems to confirm what sources have said about Gomez and Blanco’s relationship. Insiders told Us Weekly earlier this month that Gomez believes she’s found “the one.” “He makes her feel secure and happy,” they dished. “They both think they’ve found the person they’ll be with forever.”

Another source chimed in, “She definitely sees this relationship going the distance. They’ve talked about marriage and having children and are very much on the same page.” They added, “Selena has found the love of her life. She’s ready to settle down.”

Whether she decides to adopt or welcome a baby another way, we couldn’t be more excited to see what the future holds for Gomez!
