Serena Williams reveals why her daughter 'is not playing tennis'
On the season finale of HBO’s docuseries Being Serena on Wednesday, 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams revealed that she doesn’t want her daughter, Olympia, to follow in her tennis-dominating footsteps.
“Olympia is not playing tennis if I have anything to do with it,” Williams admitted while playing on the floor with her now 10-month-old. “The tennis life is too hard.”
Williams referred to the traveling and grueling work involved. But she was quick to point out the positive aspects as well, mentioning the “stellar” work ethic she has built over her 23-year career.
The first-time mother pointed out that the children of other tennis superstars — like Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, and Pete Sampras — aren’t into tennis.
“It’s strange — no one that plays tennis really puts their kids in tennis,” Williams said.
Being Serena airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on HBO.
