New series starring Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen will explore JonBenét Ramsey cold case
DENVER (KDVR) — A new series starring Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen will explore the famous Colorado cold case of JonBenét Ramsey, Paramount+ announced Thursday.
JonBenét Ramsey, a 6-year-old beauty pageant star from Boulder, was reported missing on Dec. 26, 1996, when her family called police regarding a ransom note left in their home. Ramsey was found dead in the basement from strangulation, and her death was ruled a homicide.
JonBenét Ramsey cold case review leads to ‘recommendations’
Ever since then, an investigation has been underway and the case has been covered by media outlets across the nation and the world. JonBenét’s father John Ramsey continues to advocate for the investigation, recently telling NewsNation that he has a mission to make the murder of children a federal crime.
The case went in front of the Colorado Cold Case Review Team last year, resulting in recommendations from a panel of experts for the investigation.
The new series, produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, will explore Ramsey’s death, following the family before and after the murder, according to the announcement.
“At the heart of the series, it is the story of Patsy and John Ramsey – exploring the unbreakable partnership of these two complex people – as husband and wife, as mother and father – who had committed themselves and their children to building the narrative of a perfect, privileged life only to have it destroyed one Christmas night in 1996,” the announcement reads.
Paramount+ said production of the limited series will begin in Calgary, Canada.
