At the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Shōgun continued to make history, picking up the most Emmys ever for a single season of a television series. The show already made history by securing 25 nominations, the most-ever of any series in just one year.

The FX period drama won 14 awards (out of a possible 16), and can win four more at the main Emmys ceremony next weekend. The record was previously held by 2008 limited series John Adams, which won 13 awards. The four awards that Shōgun is still up for include best drama, lead actor (for Hiroyuki Sanada), lead actress (Anna Sawai), and supporting actor (both Tadanobu Asano and Takehiro Hira are nominated).

Among winners last night were Néstor Carbonell, who won best guest actor in a drama series for his portrayal of Rodrigues. "This is overwhelming," Carbonell told Deadline after winning. "When you work as an actor as long as I have, the role is a gift. Some years are good, some years you try to piece them together. You count your blessings when you are working. This is meaningful to me because my first job in TV was as a guest star on Law & Order. So it’s a little full circle today. As soon as [tonight’s over], I hop on a plane to finish directing an episode of Law & Order. So this is incredibly meaningful to me."

The 2024 Emmys will air this weekend, Sunday, September 15, at 8 p.m. eastern on ABC.
