Shaboozey Brings Out J-Kwon For 2024 BET Awards Performance
Shaboozey has been putting on for Black country artists and he got the chance to do so on a big stage. The 29-year-old performed “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” with a special appearance from the record’s muse J-Kwon at the 2024 BET Awards.
His set reimagined a speakeasy with attendees playing pool, drinking at the bar, and dancing. The Fairfax, Va. native played the guitar with live band accompaniment and led the entire crowd in getting intoxicated before the major surprise took place.
Toward the end of his performance, J-Kwon rose from behind the bar and they performed a mashup of “A Bar Song” and “Tipsy.” The St. Louis artist was especially passionate on stage and showed love to Shaboozey in a cool intergenerational moment.
Shaboozey has had a major year, especially with his appearances on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album in March. He was featured on “Spaghetti” and “Sweet * Honey * Buckin.” He also released his own LP Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going at the end of May. The 12-song project featured Noah Cyrus, BigXthaPlug, and Paul Cauthen.
His hit record “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” ascended to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart. In April, he put out two remixes to the hit song featuring Alesso and David Guetta. In a year where the conversation has been about reclaiming country music, much like when the same was said about house music in 2022, Shaboozey’s rise couldn’t be any more opportune.
