‘What We Do in the Shadows’ Season 6 Trailer: Harvey Guillén Might Not Want to Be a Vampire Anymore Amid an Existential Crisis
The sixth and final season of beloved series “What We Do in the Shadows” begs the question: Who will remain undead?
The series captures the nightly exploits of vampire roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island with the help of their former familiar and current human friend, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) as well as their vampire bureaucrat acquaintance, The Guide (Kristen Schaal).

Yet after Guillermo was briefly turned into a full-blown vampire in Season 5, he is now re-evaluating his life goals. As the official synopsis teased, “Who Guillermo he if not a familiar who will do anything to please his Master in hopes of one day being turned into a vampire?”
Meanwhile, the core vampires are re-evaluating as well after their former roommate reappears after a 50-year nap. It turns out they haven’t accomplished much in half a century — and certainly didn’t conquer the New World (including those elaborate sets that reimagine Staten Island as a gothic lair) conquered as planned.
The sixth season will have Nandor, Nadja, Laszlo, Colin, and Guillermo “enter the workforce, visit New Hampshire, go to a human dinner party, fête The Baron and conjure a demon — all while trying to find their place and their purpose in this crazy, mixed-up world,” as the FX description reads.
Actor Proksch told IndieWire that Season 5 became “‘Friends’ with fangs” as the show evolved into being a “roommate comedy.”
Showrunner, writer, and executive producer Simms added that it has never been “difficult” to include more heartfelt moments in the show, “but I do think it started getting easier around Season 2. If we had tried to jam stuff like that into Season 1, it would’ve felt manipulative and phony. It’s hard to ask people to care about something [tied to] characters you hardly know yet. But now I feel that people know them all well enough, so those little moments can be fun without making you squirm.”
He teased of what’s to come for character Guillermo specifically, saying, “A lot of this season is about what Guillermo always thought he wanted, but be careful what you wish for.”
The Emmy-nominated comedy is executive produced by Taika Waititi, Paul Simms, Jemaine Clement, Sam Johnson, Sarah Naftalis, Yana Gorskaya, Kyle Newacheck, Garrett Basch, and Eli Bush. “What We Do in the Shadows” is produced by FX Productions.
“What We Do in the Shadows” premieres October 21 on FX and will be available to stream on Hulu. Check out the trailer below.
