Shakin' and Bacon: Upcoming concerts in Abilene include two actors

Those interested in a night out on the town for a concert have several choices the next three months.

But you'll have to wait a few weeks for the lineup to kick in, and oddly enough, two shows each are stacked back to back.

Raising eyebrows and expectations already is a Sept. 30 appearance at the Paramount Theatre by The Bacon Brothers.

Michel and Kevin - The Bacon Brothers - will perform their blend of music Sept. 30 at the Paramount Theatre.
Michel and Kevin - The Bacon Brothers - will perform their blend of music Sept. 30 at the Paramount Theatre.

Yes, that would include actor Kevin Bacon, along with his brother, Michael. They have been singing together since they were boys, but as a performance act since 1994.

What do they play? Something they call "Forosoco" - music that blends folks, rock, soul and country.

They have played Carnegie Hall and the Grand Ole Opry. They will add the Paramount to their resume in three months.

The downtown showplace already is half sold-out, with a few single $59 tickets available and others ranging from $34 to $49, plus any applicable fees.

The West Texas Rehabilitation Center's annual summer dinner show is set for Aug. 24. According to the Rehab's website, the guest artist will be announced soon.

ABBA DABBA DOO!

First up for music fans is a tribute show called ABBA FAB. The four members - two guys and two gals - fill the disco ball shoes of the pop group ABBA, which had hits such as "Mamma Mia," "Take A Chance," SOS," Honey Honey" and "Dancing Queen." Their songs produced a popular movie and stage musical.

Tickets range in price from $35 to $75, plus any applicable fees.

Next is a July 28 appearance at the Paramount Theatre by country singer John Conlee.

Conlee is most famous for his tinted glasses, which promoted his greatest hit, "Rose Colored Glasses." His other big hits includes "Common Man," "Friday Night Blues" - this is a Friday night show, so this hit will be quite appropriate - "Backside of 30" and "I Don't Remember Lovin' You."

The show will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are for sale, ranging from $29 to $59, plus any applicable fees.

PURE MUSIC

The very next night, it's Pure Prairie League at Lime Rock Amphitheatre at Coronado's Camp southwest of Abilene. It's unlikely that former member Vince Gill will be with the band.

PPL is best known for the hit "Amie," a top-40 hit and country hit, but it was "Let Me Love You Tonight" that reached the top 10.

Tickets for that 7:30 show, with Jessee Lee opening, are for sale. General admission is $30 ($40 the day-of), with VIP tickets $125 ($135 day-of).

STREETS OF ABILENE

The first concert in a while at the Abilene Convention Center will come Aug. 31, when country singer Dwight Yoakam entertains at 7:30 p.m.

Though Kevin Bacon is known primarily as an actor, Yoakam has had several memorable movie roles, including the 1996 award-winning "Slingblade."

Yoakam thrilled fans with his 2018 headliner appearance at Outlaws & Legends Music Festival in Abilene. His long list of hits includes "Streets of Bakersfield," "Guitars and Cadillacs," "Fast As You," "Ain't That Lonely Yet," "You're the One," "Things Change" and "A Thousand Miles from Nowhere."

Tickets already are on sale, ranging from $53 to $143, plus any applicable fees.
