Shakira seemingly takes aim at ex Gerard Piqué in new song: 'I was out of your league'

Shakira is channeling heartbreak into music.

The Colombian singer, 45, released a new song "#53" Wednesday with producer Bizarrap as part of his Music Sessions project. The lyrics, written by Shakira, seemingly shade her ex Gerard Piqué.

USA TODAY has reached out to reps for Shakira and Piqué for comment.

"I was out of your league," she sings in the upbeat breakup song, a reference to his former career as a soccer player for Manchester United and Barcelona. The footballer retired in November.

Shakira, Gerard Piqué reach custody agreement for two sons, aim to give them 'utmost security'

The pop star and her ex split in June. "We regret to confirm that we are separating,” said the couple in a statement at the time. "For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you for your understanding."

The couple shares sons Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7.

Shakira met Piqué, while she was promoting her 2010 World Cup anthem “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).” According to People, the couple first confirmed their relationship in March 2011.

Following their split, Shakira has faced legal trouble. Spanish prosecutors accused her of tax fraud, alleging she failed to pay nearly $15 million in taxes to the Spanish government between 2012 and 2014. Shakira listed the Bahamas as her official residence for tax purposes during those years, but prosecutors say she was in fact living in Spain with Piqué.

Shakira references the case in "#53," singing, "You left me with your mom as a neighbor.

The press at the door and a debt with the Treasury."

Shakira and Bizarrap's "#53" lyrics:

Sorry, I've already caught another plane

I won't be back here

I don’t want any more disappointments

So much talk of being a champion

And when I needed you

You gave me the worst version of you

Sorry, baby, it’s been a while

Since I should have booted this cat

A she-wolf like me isn't for rookies

A she-wolf like me isn't for guys like you

I was out of your league

That's why you're with someone just like you

This is for you to be mortified

To chew and swallow, swallow and chew

I won't get back with you

Not if you cry, not even if you beg me

It's clear that it's not my fault if they criticize you

I only make music, sorry if it splashes you

You left me with your mom as a neighbor

The press at the door and a debt with the Treasury

You thought you’d hurt me, but you made me stronger

Women no longer cry, women get paid

She’s got the name of a good person

Clearly, it’s not how it sounds

She’s got the name of a good person

Clearly, she's just like you

For guys like you

I was out of your league

That's why you're with someone just like you

There's a thin line between love and hate

Don't come back here, trust me

No hard feelings, baby

I wish you the best with my so-called replacement

I don't even know what happened

You're acting so weird, I don't even recognize you

I’m worth two 22 year olds

You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo

You traded a Rolex for a Casio

You’re all worked up, slow down

So much time in the gym

But maybe work out your brain a bit, too

Pictures wherever I go

I feel like a hostage here, but it's all good

I can be out by tomorrow

And be my guest if you want to move her in, too

She’s got the name of a good person

Clearly, it’s not how it sounds

She’s got the name of a good person

A she-wolf like me isn't for guys like you

I was out of your league

That's why you've settled for someone just like you

For, for, for guys like

For, for, for guys

I was out of your league

That's why you've settled for someone just like you
