Shannen Doherty shares video ahead of tumor removal from her brain: 'I am petrified'
Shannen Doherty is continuing to be vulnerable about treatment after she revealed last week that her Stage 4 cancer spread to her brain.
The "Beverly Hills, 90210" actress, 52, posted a candid video on Instagram Wednesday of herself at the hospital on Jan. 16 as a nurse examined her ahead of surgery.
"I had a tumor in my head they wanted to remove and also biopsy. I am clearly trying to be brave but I am petrified," Doherty wrote in the caption. "The fear was overwhelming to me."
The actress added that she was scared she would be "leaving my mom" behind and "worried that I would come out of surgery not me anymore."
"This is what cancer can look like," she ended the caption.
Fans flooded her comments with support. "There will be people seeing this who are going through their own journey or know somebody who is. Those people will feel less alone, because of you. It’s those, 'scared' moments that make us what we are. Human," one person wrote.
Another follower added, "This is absolutely amazing. I'm so glad you decided to put this out there. Everyone always says we are fighters and to a point that's true but really what choice do we have. We have to do what we have to do."

Doherty's latest video comes a week after she shared a video of herself going through "the process of getting fitted for the mask which you wear during radiation to your brain."
The "Charmed" alum was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and ended treated in 2017. In 2020, she revealed she had been privately living with cancer again for the past year. She did not specifically name what type of cancer she has, but "Good Morning America" reported it is a recurrence.

"On January 5th, my ct scan showed (the cancer metastisized) in my brain," Doherty told her fans on Instagram on June 6. "January 12, the first round of radiation took place."
The actress candidly added: "My fear is obvious. I am extremely claustrophobic and there was a lot going on in my life. I am fortunate as I have great doctors like Dr Amin Mirahdi and the amazing techs at cedar sinai. But that fear…. The turmoil….. the timing of it all…. This is what cancer can look like."
