Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park closes summer season with ‘Sister Act’
LENEXA, Kan. — The grand finale of the summer season takes the stage at Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park this week.
Sister Act is a fun, disco-era musical about a singer hiding from her criminal boyfriend in a convent. This is the last of five summer musicals to take the stage at one of the best outdoor community theaters in the country.

Thirty actors make up the show, and they only have a few weeks of intense rehearsals before they perform.
The lead actress, Brietta Goodman, says the role of Deloris Van Cartier was made for her. Throughout the show, Deloris goes through a relatable journey in an attempt to find herself. She turns from a jaded disco queen into a beloved catholic queen, and ends the show as an even more loved catholic “sister”
“Sometimes I try to avoid saying you’re born for a role, or it’s my dream role sometimes. But, really listening to the music and the storyline she goes through, I’m like, maybe I am born for this role,” Brietta Goodman who plays Deloris said.
“I have a passion for fashion in my own life. She is very positive energy and unapologetically herself. I live by that.”
