Season 2 of Netflix's 'She-Ra' has a message about friendship we all need right now
She-Ra has superpowers, a unicorn, royal blood, perfect hair and that sword. But what’s more magical than all of that combined? That would be her BFFs.
The power of friendship plays a huge role in the animated Netflix/DreamWorks series reboot and helped the show find a hardcore fanbase since Season 1 debuted last fall. She-ra has held steady as a top TV show in Tumblr Fandom rankings, and you can check out the She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Tumblr page here. Nostalgic fans of the 1985 cartoon classic (1985! It’s true!) are falling in love all over again as are new admirers embracing the show’s racial diversity, LGBTQ inclusion and witty one-liners. Just like her fellow '80s icon Christie Brinkley, She-Ra has aged very, very well.
“The message for Season 2 is about collaboration and it’s about coming together... and seeing the characters work together,” showrunner Noelle Stevenson told Yahoo Entertainment as part of a fan screening event in partnership with Tumblr that also included a Q&A panel with the show’s cast.
To catch you up: Adora/She-Ra (voiced by Aimee Carrero) has a “Princess Alliance” with Glimmer (Karen Fukuhara) and Bow (Marcus Scribner). She was also once super close to Catra (AJ Michalka) back in Hordak’s Evil Horde. It’s Bow who coins the “best friend squad” phrase in Season 1 and updates it in Season 2 to “best friend quad” to include new members.
Yahoo Entertainment asked the cast what qualities they look for when assembling their best friend squad. “Honesty” for Carerro; Michalka added, “Loyalty pairs nicely with honesty.” Scribner kept it real: “You gotta be fun, no party poopers.”
Indeed, the beloved series is in good hands. “It was literally my most favorite cartoon growing up,” says Lauren Ash, voice of Scorpia. “It was such an honor to be a part of something that was so meaningful to me as a kid.” Addressing the show’s commitment to inclusion, Fukuhara adds: “I support everything the show stands for.”
And so do fans! Now say it with us, “For the honor of Grayskull!”
