Shetland Season 9 Gets BritBox Premiere Date (Exclusive)
Here’s one mystery Detectives Calder and McIntosh won’t have to solve — when Shetland Season 9 will hit BritBox.
TVLine has learned exclusively that Season 9 of the Scottish murder-mystery drama will premiere Wednesday, Dec. 11 on BritBox, with episodes airing weekly until the finale on Jan. 15, 2025.

With Ashley Jensen and Alison O’Donnell reprising their roles as Detectives Ruth Calder and Alison “Tosh” McIntosh, Shetland Season 9 features a double missing person’s case that “blurs the lines between the personal and the professional, as Calder and Tosh are drawn into a labyrinthine investigation,” the official synopsis tells us. “When Tosh’s friend, Annie Bett (Sarah MacGillivray), goes missing, Ruth Calder — now living in Shetland — has no time to recover from a life-threatening ordeal of her own, and instead teams with Tosh to search for Annie and her young son, Noah (Jacob Ferguson).
Elsewhere in Season 9, Calder delves deeper into a case involving a deadly argument between two brothers. that missing persons investigation draws her and Tosh into a web of lies — and when a bloodied person turns up at a remote garage, nothing can prepare the team for what lies ahead.
The Shetland Season 9 cast also includes Robert Jack as Ian Bett, Vincent Regan as John Harris, Ross Anderson as Patrick Harris, Macleod Stephen as Fergus Harris and Ian Hart as Euan Rossi.
Also starring are Steven Robertson, Lewis Howden, Anne Kidd, Angus Miller, Steven Miller, Leeroy Boone, Conor McCarry, Eubha Akilade, Stuart Campbell, Nalini Chetty, Richard Thomson, Tibu Fortes, Andrew John Tait, Tara Lee, Jimmy Yuill, Lesley Hart and Gemma McElhinney.
Shetland Season 9 was written by lead writers Paul Logue and Denise Paul, produced by Louise V Say and directed by Andrew Cumming and Ruth Paxton. Gaynor Holmes, Kate Bartlett, Denise Paul and Paul Logue served as executive producers.
