Shocking Details Emerge About Potential ‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff: ‘Not Involving the Reagans’
If you’re still wondering what the deal is with a potential Blue Bloods spinoff, you’re not alone. Abigail Hawk, one of the show’s beloved cast members, dropped a major bombshell about a possible sequel to the original series.
"There was talk of a spinoff happening," Abigail, 42, told Hello! Magazine on October 23. "But if it did happen, so immediately after our series ends, it would have to be not involving the Reagan's or the NYPD at all. It would have to be set in L.A. or we follow a different family."
A Blue Bloods spinoff set in L.A. feels like a huge leap from the popular series, featuring the New York-based Reagan family led by Tom Selleck. While the concept was revealed, CBS has not yet announced an official spinoff.
Season 14 of Blue Bloods was announced as the show’s last, much to the dismay of the cast and fans of the show. Many have held out hope that CBS would retract the show’s cancellation and green light it for a 15th season or that another network would pick the show up. But Abigail shut down the latter idea.
"I don't think there's a possibility of it going to another network — I know that there's been a bit of chatter about that, but I don't think that that's a viable option given the talks that we've had with the cast and the producers and things like that," she said.
"But hope floats, and I think it's necessary to have something to hang on to and we would all certainly drop everything and make that happen,” Abigail continued. “At the end of the day, CBS can do whatever they want, but I hope they realize not only how commercially viable Blue Bloods is, but how beloved it is, and the staying power that it has, because family is universal and there are more stories to be told."
Donnie Wahlberg also expressed interest in potentially doing a Blue Bloods spinoff.
“There’s been a lot of talk about spinoffs, about various spinoffs, all types of concepts of spinoffs. I, for me personally, would say whatever happens next, if it’s done with the spirit of Blue Bloods and done with the care that we tried to put into Blue Bloods every week, it would be something that I would look forward to watching or being a part of either way,” Donnie told TV Insider on October 17. “I’ve heard stories of prequels, sequels, you name it. For me personally, I love the show. I’ve enjoyed working on it for 14 years and like I said, whatever comes next, as long as it has family at its core and the spirit of Blue Bloods, then I’m all for it.”
“I’m looking forward to watching those episodes with all of my incredible fans of the show and tweeting with them every Friday night for every final episode,” the New Kids on the Block singer added. “And I think after that, we’ll see what happens next. Spinoffs, sequels, it’s all good to me. I think what I do know is there are millions of people who love this show and want it to continue somehow some way. And if there’s a way that we can give them some extension of Blue Bloods, then great. I have nothing more to offer than that, but I will be enjoying the final eight episodes with the fans. That’s my priority right now.”
Here’s to hoping that the series will live on in some capacity after season 14!
