It's Shocking Just How Many Of Guy Fieri's 'Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives' Restaurants Are Now Closed
I've done upwards of a half dozen cross-country road trips in my life. One of the major perks of those long, meandering drives? Stopping at as many of the restaurants featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (a.k.a. Triple D) as I can.
Since the series premiered in 2007, Fieri has featured over 1,400 restaurants on the show, with many owners praising the Mayor of Flavortown for boosting their businesses after fearing they would go under if not for Fieri putting them on the show.
But not all restaurants have been so lucky. COVID-19 closures, natural disasters, competition, and rising food costs have led to many of these famous greasy spoons to close down for good, much to the dismay of hungry Triple D fans all over the country.
So how many have closed as of September 2024?
According to Flavortown USA, 224 of the 1,498 (and counting) Triple D restaurants have closed, which comes out to just shy of 15%. In the grand scheme of things, that's actually not so bad, considering that one in three restaurants don't survive their first year.
Even still, some restaurants have reportedly closed as soon as a year after appearing on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, showing that the publicity can only do so much. One such restaurant, Eight Noodle Shop in Napa, CA, closed its doors in 2019, despite having been featured on the show just one year before.
After 33 years of service, Seattle's The Red Door shuttered just two years after Fieri's 2018 visit, due to financial issues with their new lease. Still, many of these closed restaurants see their long-open doors as a rarity and a success in a tough industry where 80% of restaurants fail within five years of opening.
In fact, Dad's Kitchen in Sacramento (featured on Triple D in 2011), just closed its doors in July 2024 after 14 years of serving up Hot Blonde sandwiches. They chose to mark their closure with a full schedule of celebrations—a notion we all know would have Fieri saying, "Hell yeah" or "Peace, love and taco grease."
