Some breakups are complicated — and a lot of Hollywood divorces are notoriously messy. Why did The Rookie star Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum divorce and what’s the latest drama surrounding their split?

More from Soaps.com

People reports that Dewan’s legal team filed documents on August 28 that claim Tatum is employing “every trick in the book to stall this case from getting to a trial” and is “depriving Jenna of a fair and equal share of the community estate, and he is prejudicing her every day that this case continues.”

In May, Dewan claimed that she’s entitled to half of Tatum’s Magic Mike movie franchise earnings. In a May 8 court filing, her legal team asked for a separate trial over this matter before beginning divorce proceedings.

Earlier this month, Dewan filed a motion to dismiss Tatum’s lawyers from their divorce case, citing an alleged conflict of interest. She claimed Tatum “associated in new divorce counsel” before their trial and “that very same counsel” allegedly “created an extensive web of LLCs, each of which is at least partially owed by Channing, for the sole purpose of transacting business related to the community’s Magic Mike intellectual property.”

Tatum is opposing The Rookie star’s request to dismiss his legal team, writing in his declaration of opposition that the motion is “just another delay tactic to prolong our divorce case.”

Tatum’s lawyers note that Dewan’s request is “solely designed to delay the upcoming trial” and referred to her accusations as “frivolous” with “no basis in law or fact.” The response also says that Dewan “should be sanctioned in the sum of $20,000” for her “transparent attempt to divert the Court’s attention from her willful violation of her Court ordered deposition and discovery deadlines.”

Why Did Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum Divorce?

Kravitz and Dewan is engaged to Steve Kazee, with whom she shares son Callum and their new baby, daughter Rhiannon.

In their 2018 breakup announcement, Tatum and Dewan acknowledged, “We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love each other, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now. There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision—just two best friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible. We are still a family and will always be loving, dedicated parents to Everly. We won’t be commenting beyond this, and we thank you in advance for respecting our family’s privacy.”

In her book, Gracefully You: How to Live Your Best Life Every Day, Dewan wrote about their decision to divorce. “I’d come to realize the dynamic I was in wasn’t serving me nor was it serving my daughter. First and foremost I had to accept the realization this isn’t working and had moved into hurting,” she explained.

She continued, “The public saw Channing and I in this idealized romanticized light. This made things difficult for me because I like being as honest and real as I can.”

In a January 2023 interview with Vanity Fair, Tatum explained they had “grown apart.”

“We fought for it for a really long time, even though we both sort of knew that we had sort of grown apart,” the actor said. “I think we told ourselves a story when we were young, and we just kept telling ourselves that story, no matter how blatantly life was telling us that we were so different.”

He added, “But when you’re actually parents, you really understand differences between the two of you. Because it is screaming at you all day long. How you parent differently, how you look at the world, how you go through the world.”
