Sigourney Weaver Glitters in Sparkling Chanel Look for 2024 Venice Film Festival Red Carpet, Receives the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement
Sigourney Weaver dazzled on the red carpet of the 2024 Venice Film Festival on Tuesday. The venerated actress was honored with the Golden Lion award for her lifetime achievement and decades-long career, spanning more than 40 years and including such films as “Alien,” “Avatar” and “Gorillas in the Mist,” among others.
For her red carpet and award-accepting appearance, Weaver opted for an elegant ensemble that married timeless style with a glittering edge. The three-time, Oscar-nominated actress’ sartorial statement included a monochrome approach, featuring an off-the-shoulder black jacket with allover black sequins and braided silk elements.

Running down the front placket of the jacket were jewel-encrusted buttons. Weaver paired the jacket with a black velvet skirt.
“Thank you for this jet fuel of encouragement,” Weaver said upon receiving her lifetime achievement honor at the Venice Film Festival. She also called the award “the most astonishing honor I can imagine.”
Prior to receiving her lifetime achievement award, Weaver walked the red carpet for the premiere of Tim Burton’s film “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” The red carpet premiere of the sequel to the 1988 picture starring Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton featured the film’s cast in designer looks.
Jenna Ortega wore a custom red Christian Dior gown reminiscent of the red wedding dress worn by Ryder in the 1988 original film. Ryder, like Weaver, also wore a Chanel look. Catherine O’Hara attended the red carpet premiere wearing custom Oscar de la Renta.
The Venice Film Festival is an annual festival held in Venice that previews new films from around the world. The festival aims to promote cinema in all its forms and foster dialogue among filmmakers and audiences, making it a key event in the global film calendar. The 2024 festival features a jury led by actress Isabelle Huppert and screenings of Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Pedro Almodovar’s “The Room Next Door,” Todd Phillips’ “Joker: Folie à Deux” among other films.
