Silento Held In United Arab Emirates Over Contract Dispute
Silento has been hit with a travel ban. The 19-year-old rapper — best know for his hit, “Watch Me (Whip Nae Nae) — is stuck in the United States Emirates, due to an apparent contract dispute.
The teen reportedly skipped two shows in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain late last month, despite receiving payment.
“He didn’t show up,” promoter Makki Taj El Sir Abdel Halim claimed in an interview. “I just want to get my own money back. … I don’t want to ruin his reputation.”
A lawyer for Silento asserts that the Atlanta-based recording artist did not “cancel any shows.”
Nonetheless, Silento was ordered to surrender his passport, until he pays a promoter 300,000 dirham ($18,500). The order was issued on Feb. 20, but the story recently came to light after the Associated Press reviewed court documents Thursday (March 2).
In the meantime, Silento seems confident that everything will get worked out.
