Simon Cowell (‘America’s Got Talent’) pushes Golden Buzzer for Sebastian and Sonia: ‘That is the definition of courage’ [WATCH]

On the September 3 episode of “America’s Got Talent,” it was Simon Cowell‘s turn to push the Golden Buzzer LIVE during the Quarterfinals. The British judge and producer pressed the button for aerialists Sebastian and Sonia after being incredibly moved by the fact that 30-year-old Sonia fractured her arm during rehearsals, so 24-year-old Sebastian ended up performing the routine all by himself. “That is the definition of courage. You don’t give up,” Simon proclaimed on the stage after the emotional confetti shower. Watch the Golden Buzzer video above.

Sebastian’s aerial effort was set to the song “In My Blood” as Sonia watched backstage with “AGT” host Terry Crews. The air-bound performance prompted everyone to jump up to their feet, including Simon who was impressed with Sebastian’s fortitude. After a lackluster lineup of acts, Simon declared that this yielded “the best reaction” of the entire night.

Simon pressed his Golden Buzzer before the other three judges — Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum — could even get a word in. Here’s what he had to say about Sebastian and Sonia’s performance during Tuesday’s live show: “I’m on my feet, Terry, because a lot of people would have given up. How do you do this act [meant for] two people with one person, and then make it incredible? Honestly, I think most people would have just said, ‘You know what? We’ve had an accident and therefore we can’t continue.’ But you did the opposite. You continued … This was by far the best reaction we’ve had so far, which is why you are getting — [pushes Golden Buzzer].”

Thanks to Simon’s Golden Buzzer for the Barcelona, Spain aerialists, Sebastian and Sonia now advance directly to the Finals of “AGT” Season 19. They will join Hakuna Matata Acrobats (Sofia’s pick), AIRFOOTWORKS (Howie’s choice), Dee Dee Simon (Heidi’s favorite), plus more contestants to be named later.

The other acts who competed on Tuesday night were dance group Brent Street, comedian Erica Rhodes, balancing duo Illya & Anastasia Strakhov, comedy magician Jonathan Burns, vocal group L6, singer Oscar Stembridge, singer Pranysqa Mishra, quick change artist Solange Kardinaly, singer Stephanie Rainey and novelty act Tonikaku. Three of these acts will advance to the Semi-Finals based on America’s overnight votes, to be revealed during the September 4 results show.
