Simon Cowell may have found the next Harry Styles on 'AGT'
On Tuesday night, 14-year-old Benicio Bryant, who goes by the name Benny, blew the judges away on America’s Got Talent. The singer performed Brandi Carlisle’s “The Joke,” and gave Simon Cowell a case of déjà vu.
While this was first time Bryant performed on AGT, it wasn’t his first time singing on national television. In July 2018, he joined Carlisle in singing that song during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
But on Tuesday’s show, Bryant was all alone and couldn’t have performed any better. He earned a standing ovation from the audience and high words of praise from Cowell.
“For some reason, you remind me of the very first time I auditioned Harry Styles,” the British judge said.
Cowell was a judge on X Factor in the U.K. back in 2010 when Styles auditioned. While the future heartthrob was eliminated on the show, he returned to the show as part of the hit boy band One Direction, which signed with Cowell’s record label.
Bryant has only made it past the first round of AGT, but with praise like this, people are expecting big things.
America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
