Simone Biles' Husband Jonathan Owens Pens Sweet Tribute After Her Record-Breaking Olympic Win: 'Thankful'
Famed and decorated Olympian Simone Biles has never shied away from supporting her NFL star husband, Jonathan Owens, but these days, the roles are reversed as the gymnast has led the United States to victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On July 30, Biles received her first goal medal of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and her husband has been loud and proud at the Games and on social media. Alongside her teammates Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera, the team was lucky to wear gold medals around their necks thanks to their win in the Artistic Gymnastics women’s team final.
Owens took to Instagram to share his pride in his wife with a sweet tribute to the victorious athlete. “Witnessing history every time you step on the mat ????,” read the post shared to his Instagram. “Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful i was there to see it ??????.”
Jonathan Owens at the Olympics
Biles’ husband, who plays for the Chicago Bears, took time away from his football schedule and Bears training camp to support his wife at this year’s Games — after all, who would want to miss one of the most accomplished gymnasts in the world compete for the gold?
“It was something me and my agent talked about when we went in and I signed with the team,” said Owens regarding his time away, per the Associated Press.
“The Olympics coming up and who my wife is, that was just something...it was all respectful. We went to them and just asked, ‘We would really appreciate it if he could go and support his wife,’ and they were really cool about it.”
Owens has been watching Biles throughout competition for years, and many took to social media to highlight a video of the football player tallying up his wife’s scores throughout the team final to track her success. Talk about a supportive hubby!
Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens’ relationship and marriage
Biles and Owens met back in 2020 on the dating app Raya, and since then, the duo has been inseparable. The couple got married in a 2023 ceremony.
"Our personalities match right up," Biles said on a 2021 Today appearance. "We have the same sense of humor. And he's just great. He's an athlete, too, so we really understand each other and I think that's why our relationship has been seamless."
As for Owens’ appearance at the Olympics, he’s grateful to have the opportunity to attend. “First-class organization,” he said to AP. “I just want to thank them so much even allowing me to go over and do that. I can’t wait to be able to support her, and I know my family and my wife, she really appreciates it.”
