Simone Biles' Husband Jonathan Owens Makes Bold Declaration About Her Competing in the Olympics While Injured
As a fellow athlete, Jonathan Owens knows just how hard his wife, Simone Biles, has worked to become the best—and now he's calling the champion gymnast a "warrior" for winning gold while dealing with an injury.
The 29-year-old Chicago Bears safety spoke to reporters about Biles' historic victory at the Olympic Games after returning from Paris on Tuesday, August 6, where he took the opportunity to rave about her resilience.
"Obviously, the first day when she had the injury to her calf and just her ability to persevere through that and go out there and still dominate is just amazing to watch," he said.
“My wife is a warrior. That’s the one thing I tell people because I equate it to how we are in football. You limp around and it will hurt a little bit right before. But as soon as you go, it’s like you forget about it. Just pain tolerance and the way she was able to go out there and, like I said, look graceful with everything."
"People really didn’t have a clue what was going on," he continued. "I'm just so happy and proud for her.”

As Olympic Head Coach Cecile Canqueteau-Landi told People, Biles was suffering from a minor calf injury throughout the Games.
In an interview with NBC on Monday, August 5, Biles said her calf was "good," though she was wearing a protective boot at the time.
"It’s just precautionary, making sure, because we still have [a] tour after this to heal up and all of that stuff. So, just a little bit of soreness," she said. "I feel like elite athletes are pretty tough, so we’re just, through pain or pleasure, we’re ready for whatever."
Though Owens' support of Biles throughout the Games has been widely publicized, the gymnast's fans have repeatedly criticized the football player. As Parade previously reported, Biles recently clapped back at social media users who blasted her husband for wearing her gold medal in a photo.
“Crazy thing is, I put my medal on every single one of my family members and took pictures. so don’t ever make assumptions. ??,” Biles wrote.
“Like y’all are so f***** miserable,” she added. “Leave us alone.”
