Simone Biles Makes Vulnerable Confession About Being 'Embarrassed' at the Olympics: 'Not Anymore'
Simone Biles is opening up about her career journey, and how her views on certain things have changed over time, specifically when it comes to her physical appearance.
While chatting with Elle ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics taking place Friday, Jul. 26, 2024 through Sunday, Aug. 11, the most decorated gymnast in history admitted that while her hair used to be an area of concern, she's "finally learning to love" it.
"I used to worry about [my hair being considered] not professional… but I'm not embarrassed about it anymore," she told the publication, giving insight that while growing up, she was never taught how to do her own hair and "always went to the professionals" instead.
Though it's been a journey, Biles admitted that she's grown more confident, saying, "I'm finally learning to love my hair and the texture that I have and the styles that I can do."

And luckily for her Olympic gymnastics team, she's got a confidant who helps her and other teammates with hair styling: Jodan Chiles.
"She's the braider on the team," the 27-year-old explained. "We can all go to her for braids."
As far as physical looks go, though, Biles has realized that it's a full wellness package, which also includes mental health—something she's not shied away from speaking out about in the past.
In 2021, the gold medalist shocked the world by withdrawing from five events in the Tokyo Olympics, citing prioritizing her mental and physical health as the reasoning behind her decision.
But this year's competition is something she's prepared to take on. "I am doing therapy weekly to keep everything in tune so that I feel comfortable and confident enough to be competing," she said. "It's been a crucial part of my training regimen."
Last month, the pro athlete was applauded by fans after using a very specific song set during a performance.
