'Simpsons' Writer Responds to Show's Prediction of Kamala Harris' Presidential Run After Meme Goes Viral

In the wake of President Joe Biden announcing he would not run for re-election and then endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, fans of The Simpsons called attention to yet another prediction-come-true from the show.

Now, a writer for the long-running animated comedy has reacted to the viral meme circulating online.

On July 21, Al Jean, a screenwriter for The Simpsonswrote via X, “@TheSimpsons ‘prediction’ I’m proud to be a part of."

The accompanying meme showed a side-by-side shot of Lisa Simpson and Harris. On the left, Lisa wore a purple pantsuit with a pearl necklace in a 2000 episode during which she became president of the U.S. And on the right, Harris donned an identical outfit during her inauguration as vice president in 2021.

Following Biden's stepping down from re-election and endorsing Harris, the meme circulated widely on social media. One well-liked X post declared, "The Simpsons are never wrong."

Another X user replied, '"We're beginning to think that the writers are time travellers [sic] ???♀?," while someone else commented, "down to the peaks and the blazer! stop playing with them."

In a separate post, a different X user shared the same photo of Harris and a clip from the Simpsons episode.

"The Simpsons has done it again!" they declared. "Here's from the 17th episode of the 11th season (in the year 2000) showing Lisa Simpson as the first female president of the United States talking about how the country is broke after President Trump. And, here's Kamala wearing the same outfit at Biden's inauguaration [sic]."
