Do ‘Sister Wives’ Stars Owe Money on Coyote Pass? Kody and Robyn Put Flagstaff Home on the Market
Sister Wives star Kody Brown purchased Coyote Pass in 2018 for $820,000 with the intention of splitting the property in five parcels for him, his four wives and their children. While Kody has since split from three of his four wives, none of the Browns are currently living on the property as of 2024, leaving fans to wonder if the family still owes money on their Coyote Pass property.
Do The Browns Owe Money on Coyote Pass?
Following Christine Brown’s November 2021 split from the polygamous patriarch, she cut all ties with her ex by selling her share of the family property back to Kody and his legal wife, Robyn Brown, for $10.
The full cash value of Christine’s portion was valued at $213,420 at the time of her July 2022 sale.
One year after Christine left the blended family, sister wife Janelle Brown followed suit, splitting from her husband of three decades in December 2022. The following June, Kody and Janelle paid off $340,000 on their Coyote Pass property, according to the Deed of Release and Full Reconveyance viewed by In Touch. In addition to their joint property, a plot of land in Kody and Robyn’s name purchased for $170,000 was also paid on June 2, 2023.
While the businessman still owes money on the Flagstaff, Arizona, property, Meri Brown explained that they haven't started building on the property yet because "it has to be paid off."
"Honestly, the property is the furthest thing from my mind," she added. "There's a lot of family stuff that needs to be worked out."
Kody revealed the plans to pay off Coyote Pass during season 18 of the series after he said Janelle “pestered him about it.” Kody and the last remaining members of the polygamous brood, Robyn and then-wife Meri, got into a disagreement about the “division of property” during the November 19, 2023, episode of Sister Wives.
The Lizzie’s Heritage Inn owner felt Kody “already made the decision” when it came to the property division as the proposed agreement detailed that Kody got four acres, Robyn got four acres, Janelle got four acres and Meri got two acres.
Despite the Brown's plans to pay off the property, In Touch confirmed that same month that Kody and Robyn owed $4,858.73 in late property taxes for the land.
According to legal documents obtained by In Touch, Kody was listed as the owner of five parcels of land. As of November 1, 2023, Kody and Robyn, 45, were listed as the owners of three of those parcels and owe $539.24, $890.15 and $1,292.42 in late property taxes, respectively. Kody, Meri and Janelle were listed on the fourth one and owe $1,246.77. The fifth plot of land was owned by Kody and Janelle and they owe $890.15.
What Does the Family Plan To ?Build on Coyote Pass?
After purchasing the land in 2018, Kody originally planned to live in one large house with all of his wives and his 18 children. However, Robyn, Meri, Christine and Janelle quickly shot down the idea.
The Brown patriarch ultimately agreed to build four separate homes on the property, though the plans were placed on hold amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The building process was also delayed when it took longer than expected to sell the family’s four homes in Las Vegas, Nevada. During season 17, he revealed he hoped to build five different houses: one for each wife and one for him and family gatherings.
Has the Brown Family Lived on Coyote Pass?
It seems that none of the Brown family members currently live on the property as of August 2024.
Janelle previously resided in an RV parked on the land in June 2021. “So I have something fun to share. I acted boldly and seized an adventure,” she explained via Instagram at the time. “Lots to do out here on the land so I figured why not be onsite. Honestly I’m alternating between extreme excitement as I’ve always wanted to try this and anxiety at all the unknown variables.”
However, the mother of six announced she moved off of Coyote Pass in November 2021.
It’s not currently clear what Kody plans to do with the property, as Robyn remains his only wife.
Meanwhile, In Touch exclusively reported that Robyn and Kody listed their Flagstaff, Arizona, house for sale for $1,650,000 in August 2024. While the home wasn’t on the Coyote Pass property, it’s not clear where the couple is planning to relocate to.
In Touch also confirmed there were no active building permits on Coyote Pass as of August 29, 2024.
Christine announced she left the businessman in November 2021, while In Touch broke the news that Janelle split from Kody in December 2022. Later that month, Meri confirmed that Kody had ended their marriage during the Sister Wives: One on One tell-all.
