Slipknot's Sid Wilson hospitalized with serious burns after bonfire accident: 'I had an explosion in my face'
The DJ-musician said he's returning home after receiving treatment in multiple facilities.
Slipknot's Sid Wilson is recovering after a serious accident.
The DJ and musician, who is married to Kelly Osbourne and has performed with the metal band since 1998, was burned from a bonfire and posted multiple social media updates on his condition on Friday.
"I had an explosion in my face," he said in one video. "My face is burned, and my cheeks… I'm gonna be okay, but I did have some serious burns to my face and my arms. You can see the phone is shaking — that's cuz I'm holding it and I am shaking. They're doing some X-rays on my chest right now to make sure I didn't inhale any flames."
Representatives for Slipknot did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment.
In another video, shot while he was in transit from one hospital to another, Wilson provided more details. "A bonfire. It was burnt from last night already, there were some leftovers, and I got a little — woosh — fire," he said. "I'm gonna be okay. No, it's not from a show, it's me out working on the farm. It's not stinging so much anymore."
The specifics of how the explosion occurred are not clear, but Wilson immediately expressed regret about how he handled the situation. "I will say I do know better," he said, "so everyone out there, be really safe… [It's] something I've dealt with tons of times. Sometimes when you're a big brave man, that aspect of it can get in the way of rational thought."
Wilson also detailed the extent of his injuries from the incident. "Eyebrows are singed, my mouth is blistered, arms pretty bad — both my arms," he said. But he is determined to start performing again soon. "I'm gonna be all right, you guys. I don't care what it takes, I will see you on tour."
Despite his injuries, Wilson maintained a positive spirit. "Got my brows done for free," he joked later in the video. "Cheap Botox!"
He also said his facial hair took an unexpected turn after the explosion. "My mustache was all burned. It looked crazy. Before I jumped in the car to go to the hospital, I shaved my mustache off," he explained, laughing.
On Saturday afternoon, Wilson posted a photo from a car with the caption, "On my way home."
"Thank you to everybody for the 'get well' wishes," he said in one of the videos, repeatedly thanking his fans for their support.
Slipknot are scheduled to perform at the Rocklahoma event on Sept. 1 and at sold-out shows in Los Angeles on Sept. 13 and Sept. 14 as part of their Here Comes the Pain tour. The band’s website did not address whether they will reschedule their upcoming concerts as Wilson recovers.
