“SNL”'s Sarah Sherman Joins “General Hospital ”as an Etiquette Coach in Guest Role: See the Exclusive First Look

The comic will appear on 'General Hospital' as a dialect theorist and "tutor to the stars"

Sarah Sherman is bringing her special brand of humor to Port Charles.

The Saturday Night Live comedian will guest star on two episodes of General Hospital, airing Thursday, Sept. 5 and Friday, Sept. 6, as Ms. Finch, a spirited etiquette teacher for Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer). For Sherman, a longtime General Hospital fan, appearing on the popular soap was something of a dream.

“I had the best time of my life and I couldn’t believe I got to act in a scene with 'TRACY QUARTERMAINE'!” Sherman, 31, told PEOPLE in a statement, referring to actress Jane Elliot. “I was so nervous about flubbing my lines, because I was surrounded by pros who memorize like a billion pages of dialogue a day. Also I met ‘Sonny Corinthos’ [Maurice Benard] so I can die happy!”

In a PEOPEL exclusive clip from Sherman’s appearance, the comic’s character has a rough start with Olivia (Lisa LoCicero), Ned (Wally Kurth), Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton), Tracy (Jane Elliot) and Lois when Ms. Finch criticizes Olivia for the way she pronounces “croissant.”

“I don’t know who you are, or what you’re doing in my living room, but I'll pronounce my French pastries just the way I eat them,” Olivia retorts while chewing.

“Incorrectly?” Ms. Finch muses.

Ned stands up from his chair, rushing to Olivia’s aide. “Anyway she wants,” he says.

Ms. Finch briefly analyzes Olivia’s accent and guesses where she’s from.

“Brooklyn. 15th Avenue and 85th Street, perhaps a bit farther inland, but no more than 83rd?” Ms. Finch asks.

“Okay, that's creepy. She got Olivia right down to the cross street,” Brook Lynn says, astounded.

“It's the ‘ah’ in her ‘croissant,’” Ms. Finch replies. “The closer to Bath Beach, the more nasal the tone.”

Ned and Lois wonder aloud who Ms. Finch could be.

“Are you a reporter here to get dirt on the murder?” Lois asks.

“I'm Robin Finch. I'm a dialect theorist and tutor to the stars,” Ms. Finch explains, walking over to her. “And you must be Lois Cerullo! My new student.”

The instructor offers her hand for Lois to shake, wearing a grin.

Sherman, who recently wrapped her third season as a SNL castmember, is the newest face to grace General Hospital, arriving after the departures of Adam J. Harrington in August and Michael Easton in June.

In addition to Sherman, viewers can also expect the return of two fan favorites in September, including Emma Samms, reprising the role of Holly Sutton, and five-time Daytime Emmy winner Jonathan Jackson, who will step back into the role of Lucky Spencer.

Samms, 64, told Variety on Tuesday, Aug. 3 that working with Jackson was a “gift” from General Hospital's longtime executive producer Frank Valentini.

“It’s such a gift that Frank has given me, working with Jonathan, who is, obviously, a very, very good actor,” she said. “That’s undisputed — but he’s also really nice. And we have a very similar way of approaching the work, and we realized that that is because we were both trained by [actor] Tony Geary.”

Jackson, 42, discussed his return to General Hospital on Instagram in June.

“I’m super excited and can’t wait to dig in and see what’s going on in Port Charles,” he said in the video. “Excited to see Genie Francis, obviously, and so many others. Just wanted to say 'thank you' to all of the fans over the years — your persistence and love has certainly played a part in all this. Thank you also to Frank Valentini and everybody at ABC also for welcoming me back.”

He added: “Sending much love and I guess I’ll be seeing you all fairly soon. God bless.”
