SNL a Song: Twitter hashtag combines sketches and songs

Twitter puts hilarious spin on your favorite 'SNL' sketches and songs

Twitter is abuzz with another hashtag gone viral, and this one is side-splitting.

Using #SNLaSong, people are showing what happens when you combine iconic Saturday Night Live sketches with popular song titles. Users tend to include the song title with a screenshot or GIF from the sketch to illustrate the SNL moment to which they are referring.

Among the standouts: “Smells Like Teen Spartan Spirit Cheerleaders” (combining Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” with Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri’s classic high school cheerleader routine), plus a mashup of Electric Light Orchestra’s “Don’t Bring Me Down” and Rachel Dratch’s Debbie Downer character, resulting in “Don’t Bring Me Downer.” Fans may also get a kick out of Molly Shannon’s Mary Katherine Gallagher (remember the Superstar movie?) uniting with Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl,” which led to “I Kissed a Tree and I Liked It.”
