Solomon ‘Sol’ Yi’s ‘Survivor 47’ exit interview: ‘I thought I had my troops rallied, but they were also in on it’
On Wednesday’s ninth episode of “Survivor 47,” a multi-layered challenge split the remaining 10 players up into a pack of four reward winners on picnic, a set of four losers on a journey competing to earn their vote back, and two middle-finishers alone back at camp. The time apart in smaller groups set in motion a whirlwind of plans for the next tribal council vote and culminated in a chaotic “live tribal” right up until Jeff Probst called for a vote. In the end, Solomon “Sol” Yi became a consensus vote he had no idea was put into motion by his own ally. Read on for his “Survivor 47” exit interview from the end of the episode.
“They got my ass, I’m gone,” Sol began as he spoke after his elimination. “I thought I had my troops rallied, but they were also in on it.” Sol believed that the original Lavo tribe members Genevieve Mushaluk and Teeny Chirichillo were part of his army, as well as Andy Rueda and Sam Phalen from the original Gata tribe. Sol was under the impression that the five of them were joining for a majority to take out one of the original Tuku players, but even they couldn’t keep their decision straight between Kyle Ostwald or Sue Smey.

The piece of the puzzle that Sol was missing is that Genevieve had been isolated from the rest of the tribe with Sue while everyone else competed for their vote or enjoyed a picnic following the challenge. Genevieve lobbied to Sue that she and the Tuku players move to blindside Sol because he’s liked by everybody and is one of the more “subtle threats” that could slip by to the end. Genevieve wanted to keep that plan under wraps among the select few that they needed in order to make it happen, but Rachel LaMont told Sam about it and Sam decided to intentionally create chaos. Chaos ensued.

Throughout tribal council, the players got up to speak in small groups in order to nail down the actual vote. Sol wanted to stick with a plan against Sue while others feared Kyle’s ability to win challenges. Teeny had heard of the plan to get Sol out, but being his closest ally and friend meant that she wanted to protect him. Gabe lied to Teeny that the vote was for Kyle despite an earlier plan made during their reward picnic that everyone would be voting for Sam. In the end, even Teeny sided with the majority and helped vote Sol out in an unanimous 8-1 vote.
Even though his allies turned on him, Sol was in high spirits as he left the game. “This was a dream come true,” he concluded. “I’m completely humbled by this experience and now I get to be on the jury and so it’s not a loss for me, man. I’m good. This was awesome.”
Sol is now the ninth person eliminated from “Survivor 47” and the second member of the jury, joining Sierra Wright. The players booted from the game pre-jury were Jon Lovett, Terran “TK” Foster, Aysha Welch, Kishan Patel, Anika Dhar, Rome Cooney, and Tiyana Hallums.
