Songwriter stockpiles

Feb. 24—Georgia blues singer-songwriter Tinsley Ellis was six weeks into a 60-stop tour when the pandemic forced him off the road in March 2020. He'd just released the 2020 album Ice Cream in Hell, and its sixth track, "Sit Tight Mama," would prove prescient.

While being forced to do just that as the entertainment world shut down, Ellis explored live and lesser-heard recordings from his musical heroes, such as the Allman Brothers, Freddie King, Michael Bloomfield, and B.B. King. He also resumed recording on amps and guitars that he hadn't used for decades, and within a year he'd stockpiled 200 songs. Ellis, now 65, picked 10 of his favorites for his 20th album, Devil May Care, which came out in 2022. Ellis appears in Santa Fe as part of his Tinsley Ellis — Acoustic Songs & Stories tour, in which he tells tales from his decades in music. He'll perform some of his many originals, as well as songs by Gregg Allman, Bob Dylan, and Leo Kottke.
