Kogonada (After Yang, Pachinko) directs the film from a script by Seth Reiss. At the time the project was announced, the plot details were scarce, but the movie is said to center on two strangers and the unlikely way that their paths align. Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hamish Linklater also star.
Imperative Entertainment and 30West, the latter of which financed the movie, are behind the film. Producers on the project are Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Ryan Friedkin of Imperative Entertainment, in addition to Reiss and Youree Henley. Kogonada, Ilene Feldman and Original Films’ Ori Eisen serve as executive producers.
The film opens a week after Marvel Studios’ The Thunderbolts*, which bows May 2.
Sony is touting A Big Bold Beautiful Journey as a female-focused project, with the dating announcement coming a week after It Ends With Us overperformed at the box office in its debut. The Blake Lively feature has cleared $100 million at the global box office, on a $25 million budget.
Robbie was last in theaters with Barbie, the smash hit that brought in $1.44 billion at the global box office. Farrell is about to release his The Batman spinoff TV show Penguin, which bows on HBO on Sept. 19.
