Sophia Bush says she argued with 'One Tree Hill' boss over 'inappropriate' scenes
Sophia Bush says she faced challenges during her time on "One Tree Hill."
During Ashley Graham's "Pretty Big Deal" podcast, the actress, 37, alleged that her boss was inappropriate.
"I fought a lot with the writers... I was sort of unaware of the power dynamics at play and I would just say things. I'd be like, 'I'm not doing this,'" she said. "There was this sort of really weird thing... you look back at it, at the time I didn't realize how inappropriate it was, but again, this is a long time ago."
She continued, "I remember my boss kept writing scenes for me to be in my underwear. And I was like, 'I'm not doing this, this is inappropriate.' Like, 'I don't think this is what we should be teaching 16-year-old girls to be doing and to be seeking validation this way.'"
Her boss allegedly retorted with “well, you’re not 16.”
But Bush didn't back down, she said.
"I said, 'But I'm playing 16, and if you want somebody to do it so badly, get somebody else to do it,'" Bush said. "And he literally said to me, 'Well you're the one with the big (expletive) rack everybody wants to see.' And I was like, 'What? Well, I'm not doing it!'"
Bush did not name the boss she was referencing during the chat, but she has previously alleged that showrunner Mark Schwahn sexually harassed cast members.
Bush played Brooke Davis on the series, which ran from 2003 to 2012. The show also starred Hilarie Burton and Chad Michael Murray.
Bush, Burton and other female cast members wrote a letter in 2017 accusing Schwahn of "traumatizing" sexual harassment during the show's 8-year run on WB and CW. After an investigation, Schwahn was fired from E!'s "The Royals."
In 2018, Bush also said she experienced "assault" and "abusive behavior" on the set of "Chicago PD," which she left in May 2017 after four seasons.
"The reality was that my body was, like, falling apart, because I was really, really unhappy,” she said on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, citing the set's cold weather as one unpleasant aspect of the set. She did not go into specifics about emotional or physical abuse.
