Boasting a multigenerational twist, Freaky Friday 2 picks up years after mother and daughter Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured a body-swapping identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.

Details as to the roles of newcomers are under wraps. Julia Butters and Manny Jacinto are also on board for new roles, as previously reported. A first-look photo from the Los Angeles set can be found below.

Nisha Ganatra (Late Night) will direct from a script by Jordan Weiss, with the original film’s Andrew Gunn to produce alongside Kristin Burr and Curtis. Exec producers will include Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin, and Lohan.

Released in 2003 to a worldwide gross of over $160M, Freaky Friday introduced viewers to Tess Coleman, a single mother and uptight psychiatrist, and her rebellious teenage daughter, Anna. Constantly at odds with each other due to their differing perspectives on life, the pair find themselves magically swapping bodies after a mysterious fortune cookie incident at a Chinese restaurant. As Tess wakes up in Anna’s body and vice versa, mother and daughter are forced to live each other’s lives for a day.
