Adam Sandler is questioning his life’s purpose in space with Netflix’s romance drama “Spaceman.”

Sandler, who has an overall Happy Madison production deal with the streaming platform, leads the upcoming feature from “Chernobyl” director Johan Renck. Colby Day adapted the novel for the screen, with Channing Tatum and producing partner Reid Carolin behind the upcoming film, along with fellow producers Peter Kiernan, Michael Parets, Tim Headington, Lia Buman, and Max Silva. Director Renck, Ben Ormand, and Barry Bernardi executive produce.

The official synopsis reads: “Six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, an astronaut, Jakub (Sandler), realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship. Hanu? (voiced by Paul Dano) works with Jakub to make sense of what went wrong before it is too late.”

Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin, and Isabella Rossellini co-star.

Supporting actress Mulligan stars in Netflix’s “Maestro,” a major Oscar contender this year. IndieWire’s Marcus Jones predicts that Mulligan will receive another Academy Award nomination for her turn as Felicia in Bradley Cooper’s ode to Leonard Bernstein. Jones added that Mulligan may even get awards recognition for her supporting role in “Saltburn.”

Meanwhile, Sandler recently lent his voice to animated Netflix movie “Leo” and will reunite with the Safdie Brothers for an upcoming yet-untitled sports memorabilia drama. Josh Safdie will be solo directing from a script he cowrote with brother Benny Safdie. Sandler revealed that the film will center around the Major League Baseball season. Production was delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, according to “Uncut Gems” star Sandler.

“Spaceman” premieres in select theaters February 23 and will be available to stream on Netflix March 1. Check out the trailer below.
