Speech Crasher and Camera Gaffe on ‘People’s Choice Awards’
A lot can go wrong during a live television broadcast, and on Wednesday’s People’s Choice Awards a few things did. First, BuzzFeed writer and star of the video series Whine About It Matt Bellassai, about whom his employer says “he’s a writer at BuzzFeed who we pay to get drunk and whine about stuff at his desk,” won the award for Favorite Social Media star. But when the camera zoomed in on him, it showed an enthusiastic seat-filler instead of Bellassai, who was seated right behind the paid audience member. Later on in the show, the award for Favorite Daytime Hosting Team went to the hosts of The Talk. Sharon Osbourne, Sara Gilbert, Sheryl Underwood, Julie Chen, and Aisha Tyler excitedly made their way to the stage, and as Gilbert began the acceptance speech, the stage was crashed by a guy who introduced himself, plugged rapper Kevin Gates’s album, and threw out a line from a Kanye West track, which was ironic considering he was in the midst of re-creating West’s infamous crashing of Taylor Swift’s MTV VMA acceptance speech.
