Spice Girls reunion ‘axed’ as feud between Geri Halliwell and Mel B turns ‘messy’: Report
Sorry, Spice Girls fans.
Geri Halliwell has allegedly shut down talks of a potential reunion tour because of her frustrations with bandmate Mel B, according to a new report.
Halliwell, a k a Ginger Spice, is said to be fed up with “digs and jibes” allegedly made by Scary Spice after months of frosty relations between the two.
What’s more, Halliwell’s decision to scuttle any possible reunion appears to have been motivated at least in part by the allegations of inappropriate behavior made against her husband, Formula One Team Red Bull chief Christian Horner, by a female assistant who used to work with him.
“Geri has had enough to deal with after all the drama with her husband’s relationship with his assistant — it has been a tough enough time — and she’s just lost patience with Mel and her little digs and jibes,” a source told the Daily Mail.
“She’s walked away and without Geri it’s really not going to happen — in the past she’s been a driving force in the group, but she doesn’t want to deal with Mel at all at the moment let alone share a stage with her.”
The source continued, “They’ve always had a tricky relationship but this has got very messy now and nobody has been able to smooth things over between them — so it’s all off again.”
The report comes just one week after Mel B wished Halliwell a happy birthday on her Instagram story. “Happy 75th birthday Ginge,” wrote the singer, whose real name is Melanie Brown, over a photo of her and Halliwell. In the snap, which appears to be from the 1990s, Halliwell is smoking a cigar.
Some have interpreted the birthday tribute as another one of Brown’s supposed digs, given that she refers to Halliwell as turning 75.
In April, the ladies reunited at Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday bash in London and even sang together.
However, a source told the Sun, “Mel tried to smooth things over with Geri at the party but it didn’t go as planned.”
“She was laughing it all off but Geri didn’t seem interested in hearing what she had to say and wandered off,” the insider added.
Mel B and Halliwell even kept their distance when it was time for photos of the iconic girl group.
“When it came to taking their group picture, Geri kept as far away from Mel as possible, which was awkward to watch,” the source confessed. “Geri wanted to be there to celebrate Victoria and have a good laugh with everyone, not talk to Mel about the embarrassing things she’s said about her.”
