Sep. 4—WELCH, Minn. — Nu metal rock band Staind is dropping by Southeast Minnesota days before the band drops their first album in more than a decade.

Staind performs at the Treasure Island Resort and Casino outdoor amphitheater Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023.

Michael Mushok, Staind's lead guitarist, said heading back to the studio and on tour felt right.

"We just really fell right back into it," he said. "It was almost like we hadn't stopped."

Maybe not literally.

One of the group's tour buses broke down between shows in Austin and El Passo, Texas.

"Part of the glamour of touring," Mushok said during a phone interview while the bus he was on backtracked to pick up the stranded travelers.

The group has been on tour since July 10 including a co-headlining tour with fellow rock veterans Godsmack.

Staind was established in 1995 and the group's forthcoming album, "Confessions of the Fallen," due out Sept. 15, will be the group's first studio release since 2011.

Mushok said it feels good to be playing and that recording with the group felt like picking up right where the group left off.

"I do really enjoy writing and creating with these guys," he said. "I'm really happy with how the sounds came out."

Mushok said the album has Staind's classic sound with some added synth influences from lead vocalist Aaron Lewis. It has a cohesive, familiar sound for longtime fans and maybe old-school music fans.

"I know people don't really digest records anymore like they used to," he said. But the whole thing is worth a listen."

Perhaps in a nod to the way people listen to music, Staind has pre-released some songs from the 10-track album ahead of its release. Fans will be able to reserve downloads and physical copies at the Treasure Island show.

When: 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9.
