Star Trek: See Trailer for ‘Discovery’ Spinoff Movie ‘Section 31’ Starring Michelle Yeoh
Star Trek’s Comic-Con panel Saturday revealed the trailer for the Discovery spinoff movie Section 31, with Michelle Yeoh reprising her role from that series.
For the non-Trekkies, Yeoh — before her Oscar win for Everything Everywhere All at Once — played two roles on Star Trek: Discovery, first as Captain Philippa Georgiou (who dies early on) and then, from the “mirror universe,” Emperor Philippa Georgiou.

It’s the latter, villainous character that Yeoh will be portraying in Section 31, the title of which references a secret division of Starfleet that deals with spycraft and covert operations.
“Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she also must face the sins of her past,” the film’s synopsis states.
Originally announced as a spinoff series, Section 31 instead morphed into a standalone movie that will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on an as-yet-unannounced date; “Coming Soon,” the trailer says.
In addition to the Section 31 trailer, the Star Trek panel also featured new footage of the upcoming season of the Strange New World series, as well as announced a new Star Trek live-action series, the Hollywood Reporter writes.
Star Trek isn’t the only cinematic franchise Yeoh will be a part of in the coming years: She’s also set to appear in both parts of the Wicked big-screen adaptation, a pair of upcoming Avatar films, and the Blade Runner 2099 sequel series. She also previously joined the MCU with roles in both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and lent her voice to the Transformers and Minions franchises.
