Starfleet Academy, which was ordered to series in March 2023 and is currently in production on Season 1, follows “the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy,” per the official description. Holly Hunter stars as the academy’s captain and chancellor, with Paul Giamatti playing Season 1’s main villain, “a man with an ominous past connected to one of our cadets.”
Joining Maslany, Hunter and Giamatti are Bella Shepard (Wolf Pack), Kerrice Brooks (My Old Ass), George Hawkins (Tell Me Everything), Karim Diané (One Of Us Is Lying), Zo? Steiner (Significant Others) and newcomer Sandro Rosta, who make up the class of cadets.
Additionally, Trek veterans Robert Picardo and Tig Notaro will reprise their roles as Star Trek: Voyager’s Doctor and Star Trek: Discovery’s Jett Reno, respectively. Discovery alums Mary Wiseman and Oded Fehr will also guest-star as Tilly and Admiral Vance.
Starfleet Academy marks the fifth live-action Star Trek series (and seventh Trek series overall) to debut on Paramount+, following Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Short Treks, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
