Stephen Amell Broke His Back While Filming ‘Heels’
Stephen Amell suffered an injury on his first day of filming for Heels.
The Arrow star played the lead role for two seasons of the pro wrestling drama show. It also starred wrestlers like CM Punk and AJ Lee, but was cancelled after two seasons.
The recent move to Netflix gave the show hope of revival. However, Stephen Amell will want to avoid the same pitfalls as filming the first two seasons of the show.
Amell spoke with Busted Open Radio about breaking his back on the first day of filming for Heels.
“Our first day of shooting wrestling, our first scene was me doing a coast-to-coast.” Stephen Amell said. “You know, you’re running and gunning back in the day, and you really don’t think. We could have shot it from a couple of different angles; we could have put a mat down.”
“We did the first take, and I did fine. I was supposed to do the coast-to-coast, drag the guy out into the center of the ring, cover him for the one-two-three, but I didn’t clear as much of the ring as I wanted to, so I did it again. Unbelievably, I did it again. This time I went too far and basically landed at a 90-degree angle, sitting up and down. I had a compression fracture to my T10 and L1… on our first day of wrestling.”
“So stupid. Just, I mean, so dumb. We got so much smarter immediately.” Stephen Amell added.
Stephen Amell Wants To Make More Episodes Of Heels
Heels star Stephen Amell wants to make more episodes of the show, despite the injury he suffered.
Stephen Amell posted a photo on Facebook of himself locking up with his Heels co-star Alexander Ludwig. He added a caption, confirming that Netflix are releasing all 16 episodes of the show onto their streaming platform on September 15th.
Amell added that he’d “like to make more” of the show. This could be a hint toward a third series if the program does well on Netflix going forward.
“We’re dropping 16 episodes of Heels on @netflix September 15th. I’d like to make more.”
