Stephen Colbert’s Epic Battle With Security to Get on DNC Podium
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert kicked off another week of live shows, this time following the Democratic National Convention. Stephen went to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia as his Hunger Games-inspired character, Julius Flickerman, for another installment of Hungry for Power Games.
Last week at the Republican National Convention, Colbert (as Julius) went onstage behind the podium and mocked Donald Trump. The DNC apparently decided that they weren’t going to allow Colbert to do the same thing at its convention and gave security strict instructions not to let him on the stage. The Late Show host wasn’t going to go quietly though, as he made every effort to get up there. Colbert pleaded with everyone he could find, showing off his “podium pass,” but nobody would let him ascend the stairs. After exhausting every option, Colbert finally found an opening and made a run for it. Once on the stage, Stephen celebrated by yelling out, “God bless America! God bless freedom! God bless freedom of the press! God bless the Democratic National Committee! God bless podiums!”
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
