Stephen Colbert’s iWatch hilariously derails interview with Mindy Kaling
On Thursday, Mindy Kaling visited The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to promote her new film Late Night. But while Kaling was discussing her adoration for co-star Emma Thompson, Colbert received a phone call on his iWatch, interrupting The Office star and derailing their conversation.
For Kaling, working with Thompson was a dream come true. As a child, Kaling fell in love with Thompson after seeing her performance in the 1993 film Much Ado About Nothing.
While sharing a story about working with Thompson, Colbert received a phone call from Marriott Hotels on his smartwatch.
Feigning frustration, Kaling said, “Your rewards program from Marriott interrupted my touching story about Emma Thompson!”
Colbert profusely apologized, but it didn’t keep his guest from giving him a hard time. Kaling said, “I have so many more questions about your financial situation.” She went on to say she didn’t understand why a person as successful and wealthy as Colbert would use a hotel rewards program.
While the moment was embarrassing for Colbert, Kaling was able to milk all the comedy out of the accidental call.
