Steve Irwin’s Son Robert Shares Adorable Video of Sister Bindi Meeting Him as a Newborn: Watch Viral Video

As if we needed another reason to love and miss the Crocodile Hunter himself, Steve Irwin, his son, Robert Irwin, shared an adorable video to Instagram of the first time he met his sister, Bindi Irwin. Funnily enough, Robert posted the video on his sister’s birthday even though the video was taken the day he was born. Of course, the adorable video has since gone viral as fans of the Irwin family look back on their sweetest moments.

Robert Irwin posts a video from the day he was born

In the video, Steve tells a 6-year-old Bindi that her mom has given birth to a baby boy. She excitedly accompanies her dad to the hospital as the two wear matching Australia Zoo uniforms, and as she holds her new brother for the first time, the questions begin rolling in.

“How do you know it’s a boy? Did you check?” the Bindi the Jungle Girl personality asks before looking at baby Robert and asking, “How long are you gonna sleep for?” She then says to her dad and mom, Terri Irwin, “I think by the way he is; I’ll call him Brian.” Steve gently reminds her that his name is Robert. “But I’ll call him Brian for short,” she responds.

Robert jokingly wrote in the caption of the video: “Happy birthday, Bindi… love, Brian.”

“More than anything, Steve loved being your dad!” Terri sweetly commented on the video.

“I remember watching you and Bindi grow up on Animal Planet!” one fan wrote. “I was such a young girl that fell in love with the love of your family, and the love Steve had for wildlife.”

Bindi and Robert Irwin honor their beloved dad Steve often

Bindi, Robert and Terri all continue to lend their expertise to wildlife advocacy and their family’s legacy at the Australia Zoo, which Steve referred to as his home and “our gift to the entire world.” Bindi and Robert have also paid tribute to their dad in other ways many times before.

On February 21 this year, Steve’s birthday, Robert posted a video sharing the story of how he inherited his dad’s old motorbike. Steve loved motorbikes, Robert explained, and used to take Robert and Bindi all around the zoo in the mornings to check on all the wildlife before they’d get ice cream together. After Steve passed, the bike sat around for a while, but Robert recently set out on a mission to get it running once again. And he did!

“Every time I get on that bike and ride the same route around Australia Zoo that he did, it means so much that this piece of machinery that he loved and used everyday keeps on running,” Robert said. “I take good care of it, but I still take it off-road every opportunity I get. I reckon dad would've wanted that.”

Wildlife Warriors is a global conservation organization that Terri and Steve founded in 2002. Bindi gave birth to her daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, in 2021. Wildlife Warriors also celebrate Steve Irwin day annually on November 15. Bindi posted a photo of her young self snuggled up to her dad on November 15, 2023, with the caption “To the world, he will be remembered as the greatest Wildlife Warrior. To our family, he will be remembered as our world.”

Bindi competed and was crowned champion of Dancing With the Stars in 2015. She and pro partner Derek Hough performed a tribute to Steve when the assignment for the week was “most memorable year,” and Bindi chose 2006, the year Steve tragically passed after being struck by a stingray barb.

In the package shown before the dance, a contemporary piece to a beautiful rendition of Every Breath You Take, a clip was shown from a speech Bindi gave as a little girl honoring her dad. “My daddy was my hero. He was always there for me when I needed him,” she said. “I had the best daddy in the whole world, and I will miss him everyday.”
